The United Nations faced criticism for its decision to have Coca-Cola as a sponsor for the COP27 climate conference last fall.Sustainability activists accused the company of being a significant contributor to plastic pollution and responsible for 3.4% of global emissions, as per the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). A petition with 240,000 signatures was created, demanding that Coca-Cola be removed as a sponsor. However, this request was not fulfilled. In response, at least 60 public health groups called for an end to “corporate capture” from polluting companies in climate talks.
