For better sustainability, Unilever is set to launch a new capsule and container for Persil. The capsule would use a fully biodegradable membrane made with 25% renewable materials. This short and cold cycle-capable capsule design will merge with a detergent formula using biodegradable and 65% plant-based active ingredients. A reduction of the capsule’s carbon footprint by 16% and a saving of up to 60% energy per wash is estimated. The product packaging, provided by GPI, will be 100% plastic free. These measures are expected to reduce 6,000 metric tonnes of plastic every year. The capsules are set to be released in September 2022 in France and in early 2023 in the UK and other European countries.
