Wendy’s has partnered with Google Cloud to pilot artificial intelligence (AI) technology at a company-operated drive-thru in June. The collaboration aims to enhance the drive-thru ordering experience, ensuring speed and consistency. Wendy’s recognises the growing trend of utilising AI in drive-thru operations, with other brands like CKE Restaurant Holdings and Del Taco also implementing similar technologies. The expanded partnership, known as Wendy’s FreshAI, will leverage Google Cloud’s generative AI and large language models (LLMs). By incorporating Vertex AI and other generative AI offerings, Wendy’s plans to enable meaningful conversations with customers, understand complex made-to-order requests, and generate responses to frequently asked questions. The integration will involve Wendy’s menu data, established business rules, and hardware integration with the point-of-sale system. The collaboration aims to set a new standard for drive-thru experiences in the quick-service industry.
