According to The Financial Times, TikTok intends to introduce its live retail “TikTok Shop” function to North America using outsourced technology. It will apparently be introduced with significant businesses over the coming month to capitalise on Christmas shopping. The TikTok Shop, which is accessible in Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Singapore, the Philippines, and Indonesia, is based on a similar, successful feature on TikTok’s sibling app, Douyin, in China. It first became available outside of Asia in the United Kingdom last year. The underlying technology will allegedly be provided by TalkShopLive, a US startup that will also facilitate live streams conducted by influencers and companies.
