PepsiCo is collaborating with startup KoiReader Technologies to use artificial intelligence to increase operational efficiency and accuracy in its distribution hubs. In fast-paced settings, KoiReader’s technology can recognise and track barcodes and labels of any size or angle. It also keeps track of things that are normal or unusual in form, with or without labels, and how long it takes personnel to pack boxes and retrieve items. KoiReader began working with PepsiCo in 2021 and has since grown into several applications. The technology is being researched to help warehouse workers scan pallets of drink and snacks, and it has also been employed to automate yard operations when tractors and trailers enter and depart PepsiCo’s Texas distribution hub. The technology will ultimately be enhanced to check client deliveries to ensure that human-assisted picking processes are 100% accurate. PepsiCo is joining the larger industry drive towards warehouse automation as businesses seek to streamline their distribution systems.
