General Mills is ramping up its utilisation of warehouse automation to enhance its logistics network, as confirmed by the company. The food giant has already implemented warehouse automation features in four locations, with more projects in progress. These initiatives involve incorporating cutting-edge, unique layer picking technology that allows the use of mixed-SKU pallets in operations. Warehouse automation has gained widespread adoption, with various sectors, including grocery retail, embracing it. General Mills’ move comes after Chairman and CEO Jeff Harmening acknowledged the need to optimise their warehouse and logistics networks during a recent earnings call. Apart from automation, the company has also increased digitisation in its supply chain to offer real-time guidance for product deployment and improve truckload utilisation. General Mills is continuously evaluating and enhancing its logistics network to adapt to the rapidly changing business environment, especially after years of supply chain disruptions that eased in Q4.
