According to data from the Good Food Institute, the global plant-based food industry generated $8 billion in sales and received $1.2 billion in investment in 2022. Chunk Foods, a plant-based alternative protein start-up based in Israel, recently raised $15 million in seed funding led by Fall Line Capital, making it the biggest seed round ever for an Israeli plant-based company. The firm develops whole cuts of alternative proteins using fermentation technology and food-grade microorganisms to turn soy and wheat into proteins. Its steak product has no preservatives, additives, cholesterol, or GMOs and contains 25 grammes of protein. The new funds will be used to expand the employee base and build a new facility in Israel, which will be one of the largest plant-based whole-cut factories in the world. Chunk Foods’ proprietary fermentation technology can mimic the texture, colour, and taste of traditional meat, and the company is set to enter the retail space soon.
